Relaxation and Adventure in Bora Bora and New Zealand

per person

For those looking for a trip that combines total adventure with complete relaxation, this 14-night exploration of French Polynesia and New Zealand is ideal.

You’ll start with four nights in Bora Bora – a tropical paradise of white sandy beaches and turquoise lagoons. You can choose exactly how much you want to pack in – perhaps you’ll spend your mornings snorkelling with schools of colourful fish before relaxing by the pool with a drink. Or, you might like to grab a bike and explore the island’s lush interior. However you choose to spend your time, you’ll enjoy first-class accommodation and incredible facilities in one of our hand-picked resorts.

From Bora Bora you will fly to Auckland for the New Zealand leg of your adventure. Explore the bubbling mud pools and erupting geysers of Rotorua, and take an epic helicopter ride to White Island, New Zealand’s only permanently active volcano. From here, you’ll travel to the country’s adrenaline capital, Queenstown. Get your heart pumping on a jet boat ride and see one of the South Island’s most beautiful natural wonders, Milford Sound.

You’ll then spend two days exploring Mount Cook National Park and take to the skies once more on a Grand Traverse scenic flight that circles the park’s towering peaks. One final night in Christchurch marks the end of your incredible trip.

Day 1-5: Bora Bora

Four nights in Bora Bora:

Enjoy your time relaxing on one of the world's most beautiful islands. The pristine waters of the South Pacific Ocean beckon, where a colourful and fascinating world awaits beneath the surface. Choose to swim, snorkel or scuba dive and admire the schools of fish and coral reef formations, or explore hidden coves by paddleboard or kayak. Of course, the white sands of Bora Bora's beaches make for a rather splendid place to set up camp, as does your luxury hotel where you can enjoy incredible food, spa treatments, and top-end service.

Day 5-6: Auckland

Overnight in Auckland:

New Zealand’s largest cosmopolitan centre is a lively mix of culture, cuisine, music and art with ample green spaces and easily accessible beaches. It is the modern melting pot of the Pacific with influences from Asia, the Pacific islands and Europe along with traditional Maori culture. A fresh and vibrant city, Auckland boasts some of the best restaurants in the country, and the harbour, which underwent a revamp before hosting the Rugby World Cup in 2011, is now a wonderful place to soak up the buzz of this exciting city.

Private transfer to Rotorua via the Waitomo caves:

Enjoy a scenic drive from Auckland to Rotorua via Waitomo for very special glow worm experience. The drive passes through a region riddled with limestone caves formed over 30 million years ago. Your tour will take you to two spectacular caves, one filled with twinkling glow worms and the other with stalactites and stalagmites.

Day 6-8: Rotorua and Taupo

Two nights around Rotorua and Lake Taupo:

Steaming mud pools, erupting geysers and Maori traditions all make Rotorua and Taupo a special area to visit and one that is distinctively unique to the rest of New Zealand. Explore geothermal parks before heading into nearby native forests for hiking or mountain biking the numerous world-class trails. Lake Taupo is actually a volcano crater, the lake’s deep blue waters draw visitors with its idyllic swimming holes, reputable fishing and adventure sports. On a clear day the views stretch out over the glassy water to the snowcapped volcanoes of Tongariro National Park in the distance.

Helicopter Experience: White Island:

Fly to, and land, on New Zealand’s only permanently active volcano, White Island. Leaving Rotorua, you fly past the northern lakes district before crossing the coast. As you approach you will enjoy aerial views of the active crater before landing on the lunar-like surface. Here you will embark on a leisurely guided tour of the island's crater floor to view active steam vents, hot streams, vibrant sulphur formations and the steaming crater. The landscape is constantly changing as the activity forms new features and removes old ones. The Crater Lake changes in depth and temperature so that from one day to the next, the landscape is different.

Part of the tour includes a walk through crumbling mining ruins to view the weathered remains of what was a working factory abandoned in 1933. On the flight back enjoy wonderful aerial views of the wider Bay of Plenty.

Day 8-12: Queenstown

Two nights around Queenstown, Wanaka and Milford Sound:

From the towering alpine ranges that envelop Queenstown, to its laidback lakeside sister Wanaka and the incredible Milford Sound, this is easily one of the most spectacular regions of the country. Seek out one of the endless thrills on offer here from skiing, white water rafting, canyon swinging, jet boating, mountain biking and bungy jumping, or slow down to the cosmopolitan pace of life in Queenstown and cool Wanaka and you’ll discover its flourishing arts scene, excellent vineyards, fine dining and quiet lakeside shores where you can take in the incredible scenery. And, of course, Milford Sound with its spectacular 1692m-high Mitre Peak (Rahotu in Maori) is unmissable.

Helicopter Experience: Milford Sound with fjord cruise:

Explore Milford Sound's stunning fjord from both the air and the water. Enjoy an exhilarating helicopter flight past spectacular rivers, valleys and mountains with blue-green ice falls, and land on Mt Tutoko glacier in the heart of Fiordland National Park. Upon landing in Milford, you'll enjoy an unforgettable cruise past sheer cliffs and waterfalls - keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, seals and penguins.

Private tour of Queenstown:

See the best that Queenstown has to offer, including a one hour walk out to Bob's Cove, a look around colonial Arrowtown, three local wineries and lunch at the best restaurant in Queenstown, Amisfield, where the Prince William and Kate asked to dine, as well as a visit to the famous bungy jump bridge and many other scenic highlights.

Shotover Jet experience:

The Shotover Jet has thrilled over 3 million people since 1965. Take a breathtaking ride through dramatic and narrow canyons, and hold on tight for exhilarating full 360° spins.

Scenic transfer to Lake Tekapo:

The picturesque drive from Queenstown to Tekapo takes around three hours. On this journey you will see dramatic changes in landscape and will be awed by the beautiful wine valleys of Central Otago, the fruit trees of Cromwell and the barren hills of the Lindis Pass. See the manmade canals which feed the upper Waitaki Hydro system which produces 40% of New Zealand’s power and marvel at the high-country tussocks, with the Southern Alps as their backdrop.

5
Day 12-14: The Glaciers and Mount Cook

Two nights around Mount Cook National Park:

New Zealand’s highest peak, Mount Cook or Aroaki in Maori, is an arresting sight jarring out from the 700 square kilometre Aoraki National Park of tussock hills and ice fields. With 19 peaks over 3000m, the national park is home to most of New Zealand’s highest mountains, all formed of a unique grey rock that accumulates as gravel in the valley floors. The park offers great walks with spectacular alpine viewpoints but the weather is extremely temperamental and prone to turn to rain. At its heart is the mighty Mount Cook, looming at 3754m, its peak often piercing into the clouds.

Descending almost to sea level from this epic alpine range are New Zealand’s two largest and most stunning glaciers, Fox and Franz Josef. These ancient valleys of ice that have crushed their way down through rainforest are truly spectacular to behold. Both Fox and Franz Josef are within easy walking distance and their temperate environment allows visitors the rare opportunity to experience dynamic glacial valleys in ease and comfort. But if you’re looking for a closer encounter, there are guided ice treks and heli-hikes where you can explore the crevasses of these ancient ice beds, which are sadly rapidly retreating year on year.

The 'Grand Traverse' scenic flight:

Take a spectacular scenic flight that explores the Mt Cook and Westland National Parks and shows you the region from a privileged perspective. You will see beautiful turquoise glacial lakes, the braided river system of the Mackenzie basin, remote high country sheep stations, and New Zealand’s highest mountain Mount Cook, as well as Franz Joseph, Fox and Tasman glaciers.

6
Day 14-15: Christchurch

Overnight in Christchurch:

Enjoy an evening at leisure in Christchurch, once known as the most English city of New Zealand with its manicured gardens, quaint trams, stately houses and a vast central park. Since the earthquakes on 2010 and 2011, the city has reemerged as a cultural and creative hub with some wonderful restaurants, boutiques and friendly locals.
