Begin with one night in the Peruvian capital, Lima, a fantastic place to be introduced to the warm people and fabulous food that the country is renowned for, then fly into the mountainous interior for some adventure while acclimatising to the altitude. Visit vibrant local markets and see lesser known Inca ruins with your private guide before boarding a train to the legendary remained of Machu Picchu. Your guide will really bring this iconic sight to life. Return the next day to climb either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for a unique perspective.
Take the train to the nearby city of Cusco, a fascinating place where opulent colonial Spanish architecture sits on top intricate Inca stonework. Spend three nights here, being shown around the terracotta old town and the bustling food market before a culinary masterclass.
Fly north to another colonial gem – Ecuador’s spectacularly set capital, Quito, where you’ll learn about Andean traditions, its history and meet local artisans. Then end your trip on a high aboard a luxury yacht in the Galapagos. During your four night cruise, hop between the unique islands of the archipelago, getting up close and personal with their incredible, iconic wildlife inhabitants such as giant tortoises, Darwin’s finches and marine iguanas, and snorkelling with sea lions, turtles and penguins.

Days 1-2: Lima
One night in Lima:
Enjoy the Capital of Peru, known particularly for its excellent cuisine and good museums, as well as the historic down-town areas. Your Travel Designer can arrange a tour for you should you wish and you'll have all of our recommendations at hand for the best things to see and do in the city, as well as the best places to eat, to make the very most of your stay.
Days 2-4: The Sacred Valley
Two days exploring the Sacred Valley:
Spend your days relaxing and exploring the incredible scenery of the Sacred Valley. It's a great place to experience the beautiful scenery and culture of Peru.
Pisac Market:
Marvel at the ancient Incan agricultural terraces that still clearly cut their rows into the surrounding hillsides on your way to the quaint market town of Pisac, where you will have the opportunity to bargain with vendors at its local handicrafts stalls for trinkets, textiles and treasures.
Private tour to the Ollantaytambo Fortress and Willoq community:
Guiding you through to the fertile Sacred Valley, once the spiritual and commercial heartland of the Inca Empire, this private half-day expedition will include the magnificently well-preserved Ollantaytambo fortress and regionally characteristic Andean village of the Willoq people.
You will be collected from your hotel by your expert, local guide and private vehicle to be driven firstly to the Willoq village, located in heart of the valley and 19km from Ollantaytambo.
Your next stop will be the Incan fortress of Ollantaytambo. Your guide will elaborate on the history and theories behind the Incan civilisation, answering any questions you may have. There will be some free time to stroll around these magnificent ruins before being driven back to your hotel.
Days 4-5: Machu Picchu
Private Tour of Machu Picchu:
Your private guide will take you on a comprehensive tour of the Machu Picchu citadel, really bringing it to life by detailing the history, significance and myths surrounding it as well as taking you to the hidden corners and best viewpoints. Then after your guided tour, you'll descend to Aguas Calientes for a delicious lunch at the rustically elegant Inkaterra hotel, before an afternoon at your leisure: you can explore the areas around Machu Picchu or carry on exploring the ruins.
Return in the evening to overnight at your chosen hotel in the Machu Picchu area.
Morning free to explore Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain:
The most famous of several short walks around Machu Picchu, the climb up the steep mountain of Huayna Picchu is located at the back of the ruins. At first glance, it appears a difficult climb but, despite the steep ascent, it's not technically that hard. The scramble, which takes anything from 45 to 90 minutes, takes you through a short section of Inca tunnel. The fabulous views from the top are definitely worth the huffing and puffing, even for trekkers just stumbling in off the Inca Trail.
Train from Machu Picchu:
Board the train for the journey back from Machu Picchu with refreshments served on board.
Days 5-8: Cusco
Three days in Cusco:
Enjoy this beautiful city and UNESCO World Heritage site. You'll have our list of recommendations as well as private guides on hand to enjoy the best of this beautiful city. We can arrange a number of private, interest-led tours to booking fine restaurants for you. Your personal travel designer will be able to recommend activities that are most suitable to your interests.
Private tour of Cusco and nearby ruins:
Your local expert guide will collect you from your hotel for a tour of the city, starting out at the Santo Domingo convent monastery. This former Colonial monastery was previously the Koricancha Temple, one of the most important temples devoted to the worship of the sun. According to the chronicles, it was covered in gold leaf and filled with golden representations of nature. Your next stop will be the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral. After touring the most interesting sites of the city, you will be driven by private vehicle to the countryside just outside Cusco to visit some of the remarkable Inca ruins in the area such as the cult centre of Sacsayhuaman, the temple and amphitheatre of Kenko, and the Red Fortress of Puca Pucara. Transfer back to your hotel.
San Pedro market tour:
Begin your day with a visit to Cusco’s central market, a wonderful way to discover the Andean culture and daily life. This vibrant spot, with its dazzling displays of fresh produce and fascinating local products, could keep you entertained for hours.
Days 8-10: Quito
Two days in Quito:
Enjoy Ecuador's capital, the first ever UNESCO World Heritage city. You'll have our list of recommendations as well as private guides on hand to enjoy the best of this historical city and contemporary hub. We can arrange a number of private, interest-led tours to booking fine restaurants for you.
Full day Live Quito Like a Local tour:
This brings alive the capital’s historic quarter, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, to go beyond the mere ‘bricks and mortar’ and allow guests to get a true feel for quiteños and the lives that make it such a fascinating place.
The first part of the tour includes a neighbourhood walk in the company of a local guide who will share their first-hand insights into the history, livelihoods, traditions, stories, beliefs and cuisine of their city. Experience the lively market of San Francisco and wander down to the restored and revitalised street of La Ronda, meeting artisans at work and find out more about the art of chocolate-making from a Swiss-Ecuadorian confectioner family.
A lunch of Ecuadorian specialities is served inside the elegant Casa Gangotena hotel dining room. The afternoon is divided between a visit to the Casa del Alabado archaeological museum and a trip up to one of the city’s viewpoints to fully appreciate its Andean setting from on high.
Days 10-14: The Galapagos Islands
